Specter vs PowerImporter
Webflow content import or local Markdown editing?
PowerImporter and Specter both touch CMS content, but they are built for different platforms and different stages of the content lifecycle.
TL;DR
| Choose Specter if | You want to pull Ghost, Shopify, or WordPress content into local Markdown, edit it with your own tools or AI, and push reviewed changes back. |
| Choose PowerImporter if | You need to import content into Webflow CMS from a CSV, Google Sheet, or another source — it is a Webflow-specific import tool. |
Introduction
PowerImporter is a tool for importing content into Webflow CMS. It is used by Webflow designers and developers who need to populate CMS collections from structured data sources like CSV files or Google Sheets. Like CMS Bridge, it is Webflow-specific and focused on the import direction. Specter is not a Webflow tool and does not support Webflow in production today. It is designed for Ghost, Shopify, and WordPress, and its workflow is the reverse of an importer: it pulls existing content out to local Markdown for editing, then pushes reviewed changes back. If your CMS is Webflow, PowerImporter is relevant. If your CMS is Ghost, Shopify, or WordPress and you want to edit your existing archive, Specter is the more relevant choice.
